What Is Urgent Care

What Is Urgent Care?

At CareWell Urgent Care, we understand that life happens after 5 p.m., especially when you have children.

This is why we are a walk-in center open seven days a week and after regular business hours.

If you need medical care and can’t wait for your primary care doctor, we can help.

When to Go to Urgent Care vs. ER (Emergency Room)

Urgent care is not emergency care.
If you have a life-threatening injury or illness, please go to your closest emergency room or call 9-1-1.

Our urgent care centers offer same-day services for several non-life-threatening medical problems. We help fill a vital gap when your primary care doctor is unavailable, or you cannot wait for an appointment.

Hospital emergency rooms can handle complex or critical care. These may include heart attack, stroke, traumatic injuries, and life- or limb-threatening situations.

If your sudden illness or injury is something you would normally address with your primary doctor, choose urgent care vs. ER for the right level of treatment.

What Does Urgent Care Treat?

Our urgent care services include treatment of the following health conditions

  • Allergic reactions
  • Sore throat and strep throat
  • Common cold
  • Pink eye
  • Minor cuts
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Sprains, strains, and minor fractures
  • Headaches
  • Minor burns

What Is Urgent Care Good For?

Urgent care offers several benefits for children, families, and older adults.

Here are three benefits of urgent care centers

  • Accessible care
CareWell Urgent Care centers are available in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. No matter where you are, you are close enough to get the urgent care you need.
  • Helpful hours
Our urgent care centers are open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week. You never need an appointment. You can walk right in.
  • Timely care
Emergency rooms are often overcrowded with hours-long wait times. At CareWell Urgent Care, our board-certified providers aim to see you as soon as possible.

What Is the Difference Between Urgent Care vs. Primary Care?

Urgent care and primary care provide similar services.

Urgent care is available when you need immediate care, and your primary care doctor is unavailable.

However, regular health checkups are important for long-term health and wellness. They are crucial for preventative health and early diagnosis of severe illness and chronic conditions.

Urgent Care Cost Explained

The average urgent care cost without insurance or self-pay is anywhere between $130-$180. Urgent care copays are often much less if you have health insurance or Medicaid.

This base cost is then added to the cost of any additional services (e.g., X-rays, injections, stitches, medications, casting bones, etc.).

If you visit an emergency room, your base cost is approximately $1,300 plus any additional services.
