Mood-Boosting Things to do to Make Your Day More Productive

Boost Mood

The way you begin your morning can often set the tone for your entire day — wake up on the wrong side of the bed and you may carry the negativity with you throughout the day. But what if you’re not a natural morning person? According to research, there are several things you can do to begin your mornings with a positive direction so you can make the most out of the rest of your day.

Why does the manner in which you wake up in the morning matter so much? The body’s circadian rhythm, your natural body clock, runs on a 24-hour cycle (along with the help of environmental cues to help regulate sleep, energy, metabolism and other functions). As already mentioned, the morning often sets the tone for the entire day, so it’s imperative to make choices that will set you up for success.

1. Wake up the same time everyday and don’t hit snooze!

The key to regulating your circadian clock is to be consistent with the time you wake up, as well as the time you go to bed. Since our internal clocks play such a big role in regulating energy levels and metabolism, keeping a sleep schedule is one of the best things you can do to feel energized each morning.

2. Make your bed.

The devil is in the details, as you’ve probably heard time and time again. Getting little tasks done in the morning — as simple as making your bed — gives you a sense of accomplishment and other tasks will follow suit.

3. Get moving!

Exercise produces endorphins, which reduces stress and induces natural well being. If you can muster the energy to wake up and workout you will likely be more productive than the days you don’t.

4. No screen time before breakfast — and eat breakfast!

If you reach straight to your phone in the morning, it’s time to rethink that habit. Emails, texts and Facebook immediately deter your focus away from yourself and into others’ needs. Instead, start your day with a calming activity such as mediation, stretching or reading. Eating a healthy breakfast will give you energy, improves your short-term memory, and helps you to concentrate.

5. Set goals for your day.

Research shows that having specific goals is correlated increased confidence. Visualizing achieving these goals each morning will set up a positive tone to each day.
