Aging – it’s one of the few guarantees as time passes.  Though the search for an eternal fountain of youth has yet to yield results, there are several things you can do as you age to feel and be the healthiest version of yourself.

Exercise/Be active.

Regular exercise is one of the best things to do for your physical and mental wellbeing. It may prevent many common chronic conditions, including heart disease, diabetes and depression.  Adults need at least 2 ½ hours of moderate activity each week.  The key is to find something you enjoy – a walk in the park, bicycle ride or yoga class.

Eat a balanced diet

Eating a balanced diet of protein, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals will keep you at a healthy weight and increase your energy.  A healthy diet reduces the risk for a variety of illnesses, including heart disease, diabetes and cancer.

Get a good night’s sleep

Experts suggest adults get between 7-8 hours of sleep a night.  Getting adequate sleep is essential for your mood, memory and even your waistline.

Stay social

Maintaining and building relationships is essential to wellbeing.  Studies have shown that those who keep a socially active lifestyle live longer.

Get regular preventive check-ups

By having regular check-ups, you are more likely to catch issues before they become big problems. It is also important to have regular dental and eye exams.
