Are You Ready To Improve Your Digestive Health?

November 24, 2016

Everything you eat and drink is obviously headed straight to your stomach, so your digestive health is crucial to how your body responds to all of it. If you’re feeling nauseous, bloated, or just plain yucky after meals, it not only may be what you ate, when you ate it, or how fast you ate it (which can all drastically affect your tummy’s reaction), but also your body’s general state of overall wellness. Fortunately for you we’ve put together a list of easy tips that will help your body better mesh with your eating.

3 Tips For Better Digestive Health

  1. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate – If you had to pick one healthy habit to adopt to improve your digestive health, drinking plenty of water every day is certainly not a bad choice. When well hydrated your body functions more efficiently overall, but your gastrointestinal tract benefits from it more than most. Without sufficient fluids the entire process, from digestion to elimination, is hindered, making everything more difficult – and uncomfortable.
  2. Get Plenty of Fiber – Another extremely efficient way to keep the process moving smoothly along is incorporating enough fiber into your diet. Not only does it help maintain stable blood sugar levels throughout the day, it softens your stools to help you pass them easier and avoid constipation, gas, and bloating. You can add fiber with supplements or by including more fruits, legumes (beans), and vegetables to your meals.
  3. Slow Down When You Eat – Taking your time when consuming a meal is harder than it sounds, believe it or not. In fact, you’d be surprised at the amount of patience (and focus) it takes to chew every fork or spoonful of food 20 times before swallowing. But doing just that helps your digestive health in multiple ways, including more adequately preparing the food for digestion and by giving your brain enough time to send the signal that you are, indeed, full. That itself will go a long way toward keeping you from overeating.
